Final update

Finally decided to release the last update for It Commands, almost a year after we submitted it to the Scream TV Gamejam. It was our first time ever participating in a jam and we got so many positive impressions and feedback that we discussed a lot about moving forward with the project. However, having responsibilities and not being able to pick gamedev full time was challenging for us to continue development on It Commands, more so because I was still learning a lot about Unity and programming whenever I had some free time in between work and doing more gamejams. So that is why, unfortunately, this will be the first and final update on It Commands.

We had some cool ideas for a full release of the game with story, third person player camera and more Simon Says scenarios that I'd like to share on a separate post along with some concept art we had.

I wanted to take the chance to thank all of the folks who played our silly little game and shared their thoughts or videos, it really gave us the confidence to continue working on other projects. Maybe sometime in the future we might pick up It Commands and flesh it out into something better, but for now, here are some of the key parts of this update:

  • Removed win condition, the new purpose of the game is to survive for as long as possible.
  • New main menu added.
  • Text for commands show up on TV screen as they are being said by the creature.
  • Added a pause menu.
  • Cursor changes depending on player interaction.
  • General polish on camera movement and post processing effects.
  • Interactable objects get highlighted with cursor.
  • General bug fixes.
